Why Mombasa Marine National Park and Reserve

Mombasa Marine National Park and Reserve is famous and protected Marine and National park in Mombasa. It was established as a park in 1986, and it encloses the more significant part of the lagoon and back reef. This makes Mombasa Marine Park one of the many Reserves that work to protect the safety of the coral reef, and sustain the ocean ecosystem by providing food to more than 1 million species of the Indian Ocean. The coastal beach is a tourist destination and is famous for snorkeling, sea diving, and its aquatic sea life. The vast sea species that can be seen in the reserve are the sea cucumbers, sea urchins, brain coral, pavonia coral, Favia coral, and the Acropora coral.

How to Get There

By road: Tourists mainly from the Rift Valley may use the Nakuru- Nairobi highway which later connects to the Nairobi and Mombasa highway. It is roughly a 5-6-hour drive. The Marine park can be accessed via Mombasa city center and connect with a boat to various parts of the beaches.

By air: this means makes getting to Mombasa from the capital of Kenya a very short distance. It is a45 minutes flight from Nairobi to Mombasa. Commercial flights are available throughout the day from various significant towns in Kenya.

By train: the new standard gauge trains from Nairobi to Mombasa and vice versa is an on-schedule train which is booked in advance before one gets to travel. It’s an adventurous trip since it passes several National parks including the famous Nairobi National Park.
