How to Get To Lake Bogoria National Reserve

By Road: this is one of the most breathtaking moments while driving along the base of the Great Rift Valley. Depending on any weather, there is always something to look out for in the scenic features. The reserve has a total of three gates, and all can be accessed by road. The only main entrance is Loboi Gate at the north part of the lake. It is recommended for those with the 4WD vehicles which will maneuver the terrain of the great rift.

By Air: there are no direct flights to Lake Bogoria. It hereby mean that the only alternative to reach Bogoria via Lanet airstrip which is in Nakuru about 21km away.

What to Expect at Lake Bogoria

Flamingos, birds and different species : Lake Bogoria has no outlet, consequently making it the ideal place for flamingos to feed on the growing algae. The National reserve happens to be a secret sanctuary to the rare greater kudu. It is common to find ostriches in the lakeshore feeding with other water birds because of the large saline in the lake.

Lake Bogoria Hot Springs: The reserve boasts of having a lake with the highest number of hot springs. It has roughly 200 hot springs. Some are inside the lake, others closer, and some far away from the lake. Its water temperatures are about 40c and 95c. It is ubiquitous to find visitors and locals boiling eggs as they explore the area later in the evening. People gather around the hot springs for warmth and also to enjoy the warm breezes.

Scenery and Climate : The location of the lake at the base of the Great Rift Valley makes it a spectacular view for photography lovers and visitors. The breathtaking sites are consistently warm around the lake since it’s near to the equator.

Inside the reserve, there are no hotels. However, there are private hotels near the Loboi gate. The most known hotels and lodges are Papyrus Annex in Baringo, Kibelion hotel, and the lake Baringo lodges.
